Nearly identical, but which one?

In Germany I cycled through many beautiful landscapes, including this one in the Harz. I would very much appreciate it if you could let me know which image you like best, and why? I have been looking at these two for a while now, and I would love to hear from you, fellow bloggers, in the comments which one you prefer, and why (or any other comments you have regarding the photos). Thank you!

They are both great images and although the first one contains more of the unnatural structure (the road) I like it because it’s putting the viewer at the start of a journey (with a challenge ahead).

Thank you for your kind feedback. I like your observation of the ‘unnatural structure’ as I hadn’t thought of it that way. I like the first one as well, but the bottom one starts growing on me, and I’m curious to find out other people’s thoughts about it. So thank you very much for your visit and comment!

I like the top one the best. More depth. But the other one would be a less obvious choice. Nice for a change, not the β€˜three thirds’. (I mean two thirds sky and one third land.) The sky is in the bottom pict more important, and as there is heavy weather approaching. It is communicating something different than the first, in my eyes. My conclusion: depends what you want to communicate.

Thank you very much Hetty! My favourite was the top one as it shows more of the landscape, but the bottom one started to grow on me. You are right, it depends on what I want to communicate. Thanks for your visit and comment!

Bertie, I favor the first image. There is an invitation to enter into the image and the storm messaged by the cloud formation.

    • crea2010 Says:

Thanks for your visit and feedback Brenda, I appreciate it! Yes, ‘an invitation to enter into the image’, with the second image it’s almost like the sky pushes away the ground.

I’m also more for the first one. It’s more “ideal” in terms of photography rules (2/3 and 1/3). It also shows bigger part of the road and that makes you curious, where it goes.

    • crea2010 Says:

Thank you very much for your visit and feedback Awa. I took the second photo because of the ominous sky, and I wanted to see what happened to the image taking it that way. It’s really interesting to read the comments. Thank you!

I’ve always been a fan of low horizons and in your second image the sky and great clouds become the main subject. (If it were mine I wouldn’t have included the tree coming in on the left.)

    • crea2010 Says:

HI Denise, thank you so much for your great feedback! I included the tree to create depth, but I can totally see how it would be without it, especially in the 2nd one, where the sky and clouds are the main subject. I hadn’t seen it yet, thanks very much for showing me!

Hi Bertie. While I am no expert, since you asked, my answer is the first photo. I think the colors are more dramatic and the road is more accessible, drawing us in more intimately. Fantastic photos and scenery.

    • crea2010 Says:

It is a beautiful area. Thank you very much for your detailed answer and compliment Jet! (you don’t need to be an expert) πŸ™‚

  7. Patricia Gibbons Says:

Hi :). I think the first one is really strong as the diagonal road leads you into the pic and gives the view depth. And the larger bit of green is a good grounding colour. But mostly, they are great pics of your own travels. I have been to that area once and it’s stunning :). Happy travels and adventures πŸ™‚

    • crea2010 Says:

Thank you very much for your visit and comments Patricia! The area was indeed stunning and I’m glad you’ve seen it too!

  8. kutukamus Says:

I guess the little road adds some richness to the whole ‘story’ (which, on the second version, is barely told) πŸ™‚

  9. Resa Says:

LOL! That’s like asking which twin looks better. They are both fab!

  10. Sartenada Says:

I love the first one! Happy weekend!

  11. NgTom Says:

I like the first photo as all the bloggers here agreed.
And the reasons are all listed by them too.
